PALMDALE (CNS) - Two people were arrested for driving under the influence and 37 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended/revoked license at a DUI/license operation Saturday in Palmdale.

The DUI checkpoint was held at Palmdale Boulevard and Third Street East from 6 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Information Bureau said.

In addition to the two arrested for DUI, two people were cited for not having proper child restraints, one person was cited for driving without an ignition interlock device and another person was cited for expired registration, the LASD reported.

A total of 1,490 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
