When I graduated from college, I moved from Ohio to California on my bicycle. That solo trek was made on $600 without a cell phone or credit card. I wrote a novel/soundtrack, “Moment in the Sun” about that amazing journey, published it on my own, moved into a 1970 VW Bus and am touring college campuses to spread the possibilities of a life without barriers. This song and video, Frayed Blue Jeans, is about the elusive and magical world from the novel. My name is Jorge Gabriel Barrera, but people call me “Gabe”. I was born in Los Angeles California and raised in the tourist city of “Cancun, Mexico”. I learned to play the guitar & sing at the age of 13. It didn’t take long until I would serenade the tourist and the town with my unique intensive voice. At the age of 17, I returned to California and played at San Gabriel High School in my first band. This band was a Spanish Rock outfit and was growing popularity during the Spanish Rock up-rise of the 1990’s. While craving a new image and assimilating more into the American culture, I started a new band. My new American rock band, called Triple Frown toured all throughout California Coast, Nevada and Arizona. After many shows and gigs the hope of “getting signed” seemed to dim some members of the group future outlook of the band. This tension caused issues and sadly we separated. While remaining optimistic and with a leap of faith I created what is now today, Beautiful Anguish. All the struggles, along with gains and aspirations have made Beautiful Anguish album a landmark to my new birth of personal growth and musical endeavors.
